Social Studies Education

The Department of Social Studies Education aims to nurture competent specialists in elementary social studies education, who can help elementary school students gain the knowledge and skills they need as members of society, accurately recognize social phenomena, and develop the qualities and competencies of democratic citizens. For this purpose, the curriculum has been designed to include three major areas: general social studies education, geography education, and history education. Students in this department get equipped with academic knowledge and inquiry methods across the three aforementioned areas, based on which they are taught how to apply the pedagogical theories and methods in an actual elementary education setting.
